The Spears CARS Tour Southwest Pro Late Models are finally back on track in this Saturday’s Terrible Herbst Showdown at The Bullring, marking just the second race of the 2026 season for the division and the first on-track action since the season opener at Tucson Speedway in January.
Joining the PLMs will be the Limited Late Model and Legend Car divisions, both returning after a two-week lull. FloRacing will have live coverage of the event beginning at 5:45 p.m. PT (8:45 p.m. ET) on Saturday, March 28.
With a $7,500 purse, the PLM entry list features 24 competitors from eight states and Canada, including Sin City natives Kyle Keller and Jaron Giannini. Series veteran and 2025 Bullring winner Linny White is also entered, along with a host of young talent, including Vito Cancilla, Cody Dempster, and Taylor Mayhew, who already owns a Super Late Model win at The Bullring. Thirteen-year-old Keelan Harvick is also entered, making the trek from North Carolina for the headlining event.
After a making history as the first woman to win a Spears CARS Tour West event two weeks ago at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway, Kenna Mitchell enters the Terrible Herbst Showdown weekend as the LLM point leader. But if she’s to return to Shockwave Victory Lane, she’ll have to outrun Bullring veteran Jeffrey Peterson - already a three-time winner at the track in 2026 - and Tanner Huddleston, who has won the pole in each of the opening two LLM races this year and is the series lap leader.
The Legend Car (LEG) division is scheduled for its third race of the season Saturday night with a 30-lap INEX/CTW points race. Daniel O’Donnell took the helm atop the point standings with his win at Kern Raceway two weeks ago, leading Logan Chambers by a scant three markers. He’ll be among some 17 competitors slated to take part in Saturday night’s 30-lap feature.
NOTES:
SOUTHWEST PLM POINTS SHAKEUP: The SW PLM title hunt is poised for shakeup following the Terrible Herbst Showdown at The Bullring this Saturday. With the top eight separated by only 10 points and several part-time drivers like Kevin Harvick, Haeden Plybon and William Sawalich not entered, the top spot will be up for grabs among the series regulars.
KENNA MITCHELL MAKES LLM HISTORY: Kenna Mitchell, the 19-year-old native of Loomis, California, made history with her LLM win at Kern Raceway two weeks ago, becoming the first woman to score a victory in Spears CARS Tour West competition. With a win, a top five, and an average finish of 2.5 through the opening two events, Mitchell is putting together a strong and consistent start to the season.
TIGHT SCRUM FOR LLM DIVISION: Several strong contenders trail Kenna Mitchell atop the LLM standings, including California natives Tanner Huddleston and Skyler Schoppe. Huddleston, the only driver to lead laps in both LLM events to date, sits three points back on the strength of one top five, one top 10 and a 4.0 average finish. Schoppe, 15, making just his third series start, is the only driver to record podium finishes in both races, posting an impressive 3.0 average finish.
MAYHEW RUNNING PLM – Without a SLM event until May 2, 15-year-old Taylor Mayhew of Bakersfield, California, will compete in a SW PLM for this weekend’s 125-lap feature event. Mayhew has already found success at The Bullring, winning the SLM opener at the track earlier this year. He is also an alumnus and the 2025 champion of the Frank’s Radio SW Legend Car division.
PETERSON BACK FOR LLM COMPETITION: Grand Terrace, California’s Jeffrey Peterson is expected to be a strong contender in the Terrible Herbst Showdown. Peterson won the LLM division’s season opener in February, giving him a third Bullring trophy in 2026 alone. Peterson won twice in LPL in 2025 and was crowned the Late Model track champion at The Bullring in 2023.
DOUBLE DUTY FOR ROBBY SAWYER: Robby Sawyer of Bakersfield, California is one of the few drivers scheduled to compete in both the PLM and LEG divisions this weekend. Sawyer finished ninth in the PLM race at Tucson. He has earned top-five finishes in both LEG starts this season and currently sits third in division points.
SPEARS CARS TOUR WEST TO STREAM ALL SEASON LONG ON FLORACING: FloRacing kicked off its streaming partnership will CARS Tour West last month at Tucson and will continue to serve as the broadcast home of the Spears CARS Tour West in 2026.
